Why Do Genealogy
Indeed, "Why Do Genealogy"?
This is a very good question. One which deserves a very good answer or two or more but within the answer(s), in my opinion, we must, also, answer the question "What Is Genealogy"?
When most people think of genealogy they think of their parents, grand parents, great-grand parents and so on and these are legitimate thoughts but we really need to dig a little deeper than just this usual curiosity to find the real answers to our questions.
Most of the websites on the Internet speak about it being a hobby for the young and old and this is true.
They say things like "It is very rewarding, for many people, to discover their roots. Most people have always felt that knowing ones roots helps a person realize where they fit in in this life or perhaps why they are here", and, in my opinion, this is getting a little closer to the answers we seek so lets continue looking around to see what else may be the real answers.

Shalom Mishpacha,
My name is Frank Shrum & I want to personally welcome you to LovenCherish.com's "Our Family Tree" site.
This site is being completely redone as a genealogy website and if you are here looking for the community site which was here then you will need to just click here to go there. {~opens a new window.~}
The "Our Family Tree" Community Portal is now online. Here, you will find a constant source of information about genealogy research through articles, software, resources, etc. & the activities of contributors powering the "Our Family Tree" Project.
Learn about genealogy research events worldwide, and, coming soon, you will be able to see if there is an "Our Family Tree" User Group nearby you where you can join others in learning how to research your family heritage.

Genealogy - How to Get Started - Step 1 - Grab the Nearest Relative By Elizabeth Larsen
If you have a grandparent living at home with you, WOW. Start asking questions now. If it's grandma, get her full maiden name, birthday and marriage date. Then those of her husband, siblings, parents, grandparents and children. Ask a lot of questions about the rest of the family.
